Seven Day Boating Tour on the Lakes

Riviera Nautic - Gippsland Lakes

Seven days can easily pass when you’re exploring the Gippsland Lakes by boat.

Day 1: No matter where you start, Sperm Whale Head is a great first port of call for a barbecue lunch, then a bush walk along Barton’s Hill walking track. Your overnight stop is at Duck Arm – look for the mooring buoy just inside Picnic Arm.

Day 2: After an early morning swim, set sail for a Wattle Point for lunch. Then cruise on to Loch Sport to the Marina for a pleasant overnight stop – hot showers and a cold drink await. Then cruise along McLennan’s Straits to Plover Point for the night.

Day 3: Enjoy a 16-kilometre cruise along McLennans Straits and Lake Wellington and up the Latrobe River following the historic paddle steamer route under the historic swing bridge to the new Port of Sale. Check out the latest show at the Entertainment Centre and dine in style at one of the portside restaurants.

Day 4: Paynesville for lunch and provisions, then cruise along the Mitchell River to Eagle Point Cliffs for swimming and fishing. Overnight at Paynesville with dinner ashore.

Day 5: Take a long walk around Rotamah Island, and enjoy a barbecue dinner ashore and overnight mooring.

Day 6: Metung is a good place to stop for a café lunch, then head for the Barrier Landing, past Fraser Island. Walk to Lakes Entrance, and take a swim in the lake before dinner.

Day 7: Lunch at Boxes Creek – and you might need to plan for some extra days afloat – there’s still Lakes Entrance to explore, the Tambo and Mitchell Rivers, Nungurner, the Barrier Landing and Nicholson River.
