Spa etiquette

Chuan Spa at Langham Hotel

There are no rules to guide you through your spa experience, but observing these suggestions could make your spa experience more enjoyable.

  • Help make everyone’s experience relaxing by turning off mobile phones, and keeping your voice down.
  • Be on time for your appointment – some spas ask that you arrive a certain amount of time prior to your appointment so that you can relax, get changed and to prepare for your treatments.
  • Wear appropriate attire – find out if there are policies about what to wear in sauna, steam and spa facilities and pools.
  • Make sure you tell your spa provider about any medical conditions you have such as high or low blood pressure, recent surgical procedures, if you are pregnant, etc.
  • Make sure you know about your spa’s cancellation policy – sometimes you will have to pay a fee if you cancel at the last minute.
  • Spas tend to be busiest late in the day and on weekends - book ahead to ensure you secure the time of your choice.
  • Spas employ male and female staff – if you have a preference make sure you let your choice be known.
  • Personal preparation: avoid shaving just before arriving at the spa, don’t arrive sunburnt and stay out of the sun after your treatments.
Refrain from eating for an hour before your appointment.

If you have any questions, ring ahead and ask them before you arrive for your appointment so that you can make the most of your relaxing spa experience.
