| Long an institution on the city's 'lush' scene, The Melbourne Supper Club is reputedly one of the best wine bars in Australia. One glance at the exhaustive wine list will give you a hint as to why. Another indication comes from the many leather chesterfields, softened by the buttocks of numerous wine aficionados over the years. And why not? The staff at The Melbourne Supper Club have taken their devotion to and love of fermented grapes to the extreme, so the rest of us can indulge in a little vinous enjoyment.
So extensive is the wine list that wine varieties are separated into their constituent grape types and blends, with each sub-section running into dozens of choices. There are prices to suit any wallet or purse, but beware, leave your credit card at home. Buying a $4050 bottle of Dom Perignon to impress your friends always seems like a good idea at the time.
If you're not a wine hound, there's still a nice list of fancy beers to wet your whistle - James Squire, Little Creatures, Chimay, Raftman, and Trappistes Rochefort, to name but a few.
Snacks come in all varieties, from roasted nuts, chipolata hot dogs and kalamata olives, to Peking duck pancakes and pate de foie gras. However, like most purchasables in life, if you have to ask how much, you can't afford it.
