The Maryborough Highland Gathering is conducted at Princes Park in Maryborough each year and is Australia's oldest continuous sporting contest, first held in 1857. This one-day event celebrates the Scottish and Australian cultures. Activities include athletics events and the Maryborough Gift, highland dancing, highland pipe bands, brass bands, highland games, Australian Sheaf Tossing, concert bands, penny-farthing cycling, a street parade, an evening concert and a fireworks display. The children will be entertained with amusements and carnival activities all day.
