The Australian Open, the first of the world's four grand slam tennis tournaments during the year, is scheduled to open at Melbourne Park on January 19, 2009. The tournament reaches its climax on February 1 with the men's singles championship match. The women's singles final is held on January 31. With over 500 of the worlds best players vying for the title, it is anyones guess who will triumph in 2009.

Spiegelworld
Appearing for the first time in Australia, this sensational carnival village will be taking over The Oval outside Rod Laver Arena, providing the Australian Open with an exciting festival hot-spot. At the heart of Spiegelworld is a beautiful, historic European Spiegeltent.
Free concerts and DJ sessions
Every day during Australian Open 2009, outdoor concerts will be presented at the Heineken Beer Garden and Spiegelworld stages. From dusk, the party continues with a range of DJ sessions at SpiegelBall, the outdoor dance floor at Spiegelworld.

Live site
If you cant make it to Melbourne Park, you can still be a part of the excitement of the Australian Open at a live site. Join the crowd of fans at Melbournes Federation Square to watch all the on-court action on the big screen.
Getting to the Open
Richmond, Flinders Street and Jolimont train stations are within easy walking distance from Melbourne Park. Access to the venue from Flinders Street is via the signed route through Federation Square and Birrarung Marr, a leisurely 10-minute stroll along the banks of the Yarra River. All country trains and buses terminate at Southern Cross Station, which is on the city circle train line.
Free trams
All valid Australian Open ticket holders are able to enjoy the free tram shuttle operating on route 70 from the city to Melbourne Park. The service operates from 8.30am until one hour after the end of play, including twilight and night sessions.
