colour + design create vibrant + tranquil spaces
The task of transforming the existing nine storey 1970’s building into a contemporary boutique hotel was a challenge welcomed by award-winning Melbourne architects, Jackson Clements Burrows.
The philosophy for the redevelopment was to create a modern hotel with spacious and well-designed accommodation and conference rooms, which would become a dynamic new destination in central Melbourne.
The vibrant public areas in the hotel are complemented by the understated design of the guest rooms. In recognition of the heroic nature of the Brutalist origins of the building, colour is applied in a similarly bold and uncompromising manner.
The corridor on each accommodation level is saturated in a different colour of the spectrum, which creates a unique and memorable identity for each floor. In contrast to the corridors, the neutral tones, soft lighting and warm honey-coloured furniture in the guest rooms provide a tranquil and intimate atmosphere.
Colour from the corridors is introduced to the guest rooms through a coloured glass louvre window in every bathroom, which provides light and ventilation and adds a layer of intricacy to each room.
Leading Melbourne graphic designers Igloo have worked closely with Jackson Clements Burrows to create a dynamic new brand consisting of a new logo, interior signage and creative concepts such as stationery, promotional brochures and a web site.
The Jasper Hotel logo complements the building design through its fresh, modern theme and strong use of colour.
The intricate pattern of flora and fauna that features in the marketing material and throughout the public spaces of the building embodies the diverse and lively environs of the city and its inhabitants.
