Rugby in Melbourne

Wallabies captain George Gregan passing against France

While traditionally an Australian Football League (AFL) city, Melbourne has a long Rugby history. Each winter there is a local Rugby League competition, but the real activity kicks in when blockbuster events come to town, including two or three Test Matches each year. Watch the Australian Wallabies team take on a variety of nations in competitions such as the Bledisloe Cup and Tri Nations.

If Rugby League is more your style, then local side Melbourne Storm, members of the national competition, are based at Olympic Park in the heart of the Yarra River sports precinct. Olympic Park's stadium atmosphere is renowned in the world of league. The season kicks off in March.
