Wildlife – Gippsland

Kangaroos - Wilsons Promontory

Gippsland has a wealth of wildlife viewing opportunities. Wilsons Promontory is a particularly important refuge for a diverse range of native wildlife including rosellas, which are commonly seen around visitor areas and near the walking tracks.

The gentle waters and undisturbed islands of Gippsland Lakes also provide a haven for abundant wildlife. In central Gippsland, the elevated boardwalks stretching over the internationally significant Sale Common wetland, near Sale are another highlight providing access for birdwatchers to a wide range of migratory wading birds, swans, herons, egrets, and black spoonbills.
